Did you know?
An orthodontist receives 24 – 36 months of additional training to specialize in orthodontics? During those 2-3 years of training they are taught how to properly realign crooked teeth into a fabulous smile. Orthodontists not only straighten the teeth, but bring them into proper alignment as well. To become an orthodontist you must first complete four years of dental school, then continue on to specialize. Make sure to put your future smile into the hands of a trained orthodontist. Just because it is advertised “orthodontics” doesn’t make them an “orthodontist!” Always check to see if they are members of the AAO (American Association of Orthodontists) as only orthodontists are members of this society.
Ask around! Talk with a variety of actual patients and see what their experience was like. Word of mouth is a very powerful tool! Ask the following questions:
How comfortable were you, or your child, in the exam in regard to your specific problem and were the possible procedures explained well? |
Does your dentist refer to a particular orthodontist and why? |
How well did the staff address any issues? Were they friendly? |
Were they compassionate? |
How are emergencies handled when they arise? |
Did the doctor receive his or her education in orthodontics? |
Is your insurance accepted and if not, were you given the option of financing and payment plans? |
